Abstract

Creating drawings with the help of artificial intelligence can be useful in working with clients who are unable to use traditional art materials due to physical limitations or certain conditions. The purpose of the conducted research was to compare the features of human creativity and artificial intelligence. The design of the study involved creating a series of drawings by subjects on stimulus words denoting abstract concepts – «patriotism», «freedom», «stability», «dignity», «heroism». The applied symbols and colors in the students’ drawings (75 in total) were analyzed. The obtained data were compared with the symbols and colors of drawings created by AI for the same stimulus words (86 drawings were obtained using different applications, requests were sent from different IP addresses). Drawings created by AI are considered by us as co-creation, because there is a person – the «customer» of the drawing, who creates a description (in our case – stimulus words), and a compilation by artificial intelligence of images that already exist on the World Wide Web on a given topic. The comparative analysis revealed certain regularities in the symbolization of a given theme in students’ drawings: the theme of patriotism is revealed through symbols of Ukrainian statehood and plant symbolism and yellow, blue and red colors, the theme of freedom has symbols of the sky, birds and the landscape, the theme of stability is associated by students with the military and is symbolized in images of nature, the theme of dignity does not have a clear symbolization in the ideas of the test subjects, which we connected with the feeling of inferiority as an echo of centuries of enslavement of Ukrainians, the theme of heroism in the minds of young people has a strong connection with death – only giving one’s life for the Motherland is heroism. AI drawings created by stimulus words are more vivid, complex than students’ drawings, contain images of people, but their analysis is difficult due to the lack of common symbols in the drawings obtained from different sources. The search for ways to use artificial intelligence in the work of an art therapist is a prospect for further research.
